On Saturday 1st June 2024, Eden University participated in the Zambia Reliance for Clean, Green and Health campaign tree planting exercise and a 2KM climate Awareness Walk at the Holiday Inn and Buffalo Park in Lusaka.
The exercise attracted a number of corporate organizations and government agencies including Eden University, the Coca Cola Beverages Zambia, Rural Electrification Authority (REA), RwandAir, and South African Airways as the main corporate sponsors. The Government was represented by the Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Youth and Sports in charge of Sport Mr. Kangwa Chileshe who spoke on behalf of the Vice President.
The University as part of its resolve to help in the fight against climate change contributed towards the purchase of ten thousand trees which Zambia Reliance intends to plant in all the ten provinces of Zambia.
At the event in Lusaka, Eden was represented by 18 students from the School of Natural Sciences under Ecology and Conversation Biology.
This exercise reaffirmed the University’s commitment towards dedicating resources in the mitigation, adaptation and reversal of the effects of climate change in cooperation with other stakeholders.
The students were given an opportunity to appreciate and put in practice their skills, whilst in addition to, interacting with industry players leading the fight against climate change. Furthermore, the students garnered contacts for future collaborations during their period of study and post-graduation.
