Eden University Environment Health Students under the School of Medicine were proud to be part of the Environmental Sustainability Symposium which was held at the University of Zambia Ridgeway Campus on 8th September ,2023.
As part of contributing to environmental sustainability, the students developed a plastic cycling project that utilizes a combustion chamber which burns plastic waste and safely deposits the motten plastic into a wooden clay pot that shapes them into plastic pavers. The pavers made with this process have proven to be stronger and more durable than concrete ones.
In addition, the machine treats the toxic smoke emissions by directing them into a designated boi- filtration bed that is made up of layers of cow dung. The end process is used as natural fertilizer for plants and vegetation thus reducing the amount of carbon released in the atmosphere and the students intend to utilize the concept at Eden University.
